The objectives of Week 1 are to:
  • Course and participant introduction
  • Discuss organizational research
  • Explain the contingency approach to managing individuals’ behavior within an organizational setting.
  • Describe the impact of an organization’s culture on individual and team behavior
  • Identify specific practices and programs used by organizations to facilitate socialization
  • Discuss the global skills managers must learn, practice, and refine to deal with a changing world
  • Define what is meant by globalization
  • Discuss why the increasing diversity of the workforce will require the adoption
    of a different approach/style of managing employees.
  • Define perception and explain its role in understanding and coping with organizational life.
Classroom Activities
  1. Course introduction and discussion of the module
  2. Lecture on Culture and Globalization
  3. Discussion of “Creating a knowledge based culture”
  4. Lecture and open discussion on individual differences
  5. Lecture and open discussion on motivation
  6. Summary of learning objectives for the week and preview of week 2
